Scent of a Woman...

I am wondering if our perfumes can perhaps define the type of lady we are? After all the lovely comments from my last post, I felt a little reminiscent, to say the least....

I know I would feel undressed without my perfume on......

"Smells are surer than sounds and sights to make heart strings crack" said: - Rudyard Kipling.I am thinking he was certainly right!
My mum wore this perfume throughout all my childhood: Grossmiths White fire.( the original bottle, sits pride of place on my dressing table) it still has the most lovely scent after all these years!
Throughout the late seventies, big sister of mine wore this, soo I would steal a few sprays,as I was much to young to wear ladies perfumes...
Smitty did it for me! As the slogan would say....

My hey day was the eighties, soo I was a poison by Christian Dior  type of girl then...Heavily into saving seals and reading the Plague Dogs by Richard Adams.

My Olivia now steals a spray of my Poison as she starts to get ready to go out, "Hey!" I say "That's vintage, go easy and please just wear for special occasions". I am thinking that you only understand vintage when you become vintage your self! ha ha.

Now a days I prefer gentler type perfumes such as Arran Aromatics: After the rain, it really smells like the morning after the rain...Or Penhaligons lily of the valley, soo lovely!

I have a small confession I still wear my Black cherry lipstick from my eighties days, only when the mood is called for though!
Wondering what your perfume is sayng about you!
Have a lovely little weekend dear readers......x

  3. It is so true that a certain scent/perfume can remind you of someone. My Mom use to wear Chanel No 5 (still does). I really like the sweet smelling perfumes..at the moment my favourite one is SJP NYC.

  5. Hello Maria!! Thank you for finding my blog & following, I'm so glad you have as it has enabled me to find your wonderful blog too!! I am looking forward to reading back through past posts and having a good catch up. I really enjoyed this post!! Every time I catch a whiff of Chanel No 5 i'm reminded straight away of my lovely late gran...so much so that i cannot resist a quick spray whenever I come across the testers in the big department stores. I've worn a few different perfumes over the years since I was in my early teens, and each one transports me straight back to that particular time of my life...Marina xx

  7. Hello Maria how are you? Thank you so much for stopping by in my blog! I came here to take a look and I am loving it ;) I just adore your vintage bottles, I don't use perfume at all because of my allergies (imagine me with a perfume, sneezing all day...) but I love the colors and shapes of the bottles.

I hope you are having a nice Sunday!

  9. Hello Maria
Thank you for your lovely comments, yes you are right, the Wall's van was not as frequent as the others!
I love your post on Perfume, I too used to wear Poison in the 80's and Miss Dior, and my mum always wore Freesia by Yardley. It is strange how you never forget!

  10. Maria,
Thank you so much for visiting and following my blog. I think we are kindred spirits. I love all things old, and I would love to live in an old Victorian home. I would love to see pics!
I can only wear very few perfumes without getting headaches, but my one scent is my signature scent, and people comment how they like it and how it reminds them of me when they smell it elsewhere! I'm your newest follower.
It's so nice to meet you!
